HISTORY

Since Carl von Linde invented the cooling machine in 1870, breweries have been cooling their beers in artificially cooled storage facilities or cooling tanks. Today, just as it was centuries ago, Graser Rock Cellar Beer is stored without artificial cooling in the historic rock cellars beneath the brewery. At a constant ambient temperature of 8 to 10°C, it matures evenly in moderate cold, resulting in a particularly balanced, refined, and malty flavor.

OUT OF TRADITION

Our Promise

wheat

Our beers are just like Konrad Graser: full of character.

Graser beers are unlike any others. Each one has a unique craft feature that sets it apart from normal beers. This distinctive technique in the brewing process gives Graser beers their unmistakable flavor. That’s why each one tastes like no other. It’s all part of our tradition.

brew-kettle

Original recipes based on Bamberg’s oldest brewing tradition.

Before Konrad Graser took over Hellerbräu, he ran the former Michaelsberg Brewery for many years as owner and brewmaster. The brewing logs containing his recipes date back to that time. The Michaelsberg Brewery, with documented brewing rights dating back to 1122, is considered Bamberg’s oldest brewing tradition.

family-tree

Graser beers are a family affair today, just as they were back then.

What would Konrad Graser say about the fact that his descendant, Matthias Trum, is breathing new life into his beers? He would surely be proud. Today, Matthias Trum—the sixth generation of his family—runs Hellerbräu, which his great-great-great-grandfather took over after his time at Michaelsberg.

The Graser beers are something special to me personally as well. They are the legacy of my great-great-great-grandfather Konrad Graser—family history brought to life and, at the same time, an important part of Bamberg’s brewing tradition.
